Before this update, Presence Simulation couldn’t span past midnight—meaning if you wanted lights to flicker between, say, 8 PM and 3 AM, the feature wouldn’t work. But now, you can set any time range, even if it crosses into the next day. This makes your home appear naturally occupied at all hours, deterring potential intruders.
Why It Matters
Homes that stay dark all night are easy targets. With Presence Simulation:
- Lights and devices turn on/off randomly within your set schedule, mimicking real activity.
- Customizable timing lets you cover late evenings, early mornings, or entire nights.
- Flexible repetition—choose weekdays, weekends, or specific days to match your routine.
How to Set It Up
- Open the eWeLink app and go to Insight > Presence Simulation.
- Tap “Add” to create a new simulation schedule.
- Name your schedule, define the effective period (e.g., 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM), and select the repetition pattern—whether it’s every day, weekdays only, weekends, or specific days.
- Set the device runtime duration. You can customize how long each device stays on during the simulation, from 1 minute up to 23 hours and 59 minutes.
- Choose the devices you want to include, such as lights or smart plugs. These will turn on and off randomly within your schedule.
- Save your settings, and you’re all set!
Real-Life Example
Presence simulation is especially useful when you’re away for extended periods. Here are a few situations where it comes in handy:
- Weekend Getaway: Set the simulation to run overnight from Friday evening through Sunday morning. While you’re relaxing out of town, your lights will turn on and off at random times to make it look like someone’s home.
- Business Trip: Heading out for a few days? Use Presence Simulation to cover your evenings and early mornings so your home doesn’t sit dark and quiet at night.
- Extended Vacation: Planning a longer trip? Pair Presence Simulation with other smart devices—like motorized blinds or a TV that turns on briefly—to create a convincingly lived-in feel around the clock.
